i was in downtown houston on saturday for the houston women's festival. unfortunately, i missed half of the acts because i didn't arrive until late afternoon but i still got to see: carrie rodriguez, blame sally and sarah bettens. the weather was perfect and the tens of thousands of birds making formations above the plaza were a spectacular sight.

history in the making....colin powell endorses obama

wow. one of the world's most famous black republicans endorses obama on "meet the press" this morning. i can just hear obama saying, "ok mccain, how you like me now...booyah!"

in the preface to his nod to obama, powell criticized mccain's negative campaigning including those insidious "robo calls" filled with inaccurate statements about the democratic nominee for president. powell's endorsement:

I have come to the conclusion that because of his ability to inspire, because of the inclusive nature of his campaign, because he is reaching out all across America, because of who he is and his rhetorical abilities and you have to take that into account, as well as his substance. He has both style and substance, he has met the standard of being a successful president. Being an exceptional president. I think he is a transformational figure. He is a new generation coming in to the world, on to the world stage, on to the American stage and for that reason I'll be voting for Barack Obama.

i was listening to bbc world service this morning when i heard about this. elizabeth II visited google's uk headquarters. bbc radio ran a satire of an actress performing what she thought the queen might be doing and typing when she logged onto the internet from buckingham palace. it was hilarious. www.bbc.co.uk/radio

i spent six and a half months living on the border between austin and the abject suburbs, the border of travis & williamson counties. i have moved back to my the first 'hood i lived in when i first arrived in austin a year and a month ago. hello bike. hello walking. hello less money spent on gas.
